Filing for Bankruptcy in Columbus

The process for filing for bankruptcy is a lot easier than you might realize:

  • Free initial consultation: We will start by a simple conversation with you, which includes a form we have you fill out to give us a better understanding of your financial situation. We will help you decide whether to file for Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy. We will also explain clearly our fee arrangements so that you will know exactly what you will pay for our services.
  • Filing: The biggest work involved with filing is getting your paperwork together correctly, then we file it with the court and you are protected by the automatic stay in bankruptcy.
  • Credit counseling: Everyone who files for bankruptcy is required to take a pre-filing credit counseling class, to help learn how to manage personal finances and avoid serious debt in the future. We will show you how to register so that we can move the process along. This session is done online or by telephone.
  • Court hearings: In both Chapter 7 and Chapter 13, you appear at a brief hearing in front of your trustee with us as your attorneys. In Chapter 13, you may also need to appear at a confirmation hearing.
  • Discharge: After completing the process, and after completing a second debtor education session, your debts will be discharged, and you will be on the road to financial freedom.
